Program Overview
This popular fjords tour takes you to Western Norway, a region of narrow fjords cutting into tall mountains, of waterfalls cascading down mountainsides, and of glaciers that never melt. Spectacular architecture, one-of-a-kind train rides, fjord cruises, and delicacies made from local produce enhance the experience. Created by a succession of ice ages, the stunning landscapes of “Fjord Norway” have exhibited unchanging beauty throughout the years. With each fjord cruise you will find small communities and villages, each with its own charm, reflecting its local traditions and what can be grown in each place. Here you will also experience a sensational version of the popular Norway in a Nutshell® tour, where the Flåm Railway is one of many highlights. The Flåm Railway, a highlight in the famous Sognefjord / Norway in a Nutshell®, is coming up!
Continuing your journey, embark on the Sognefjord in a Nutshell® (another version of the Norway in a Nutshell®), a trip which will take you through some of Norway’s most beautiful fjord scenery. You will experience the scenic Bergen Railway, the breathtaking Flåm Railway, the Aurlandsfjord, and the narrow and dramatic UNESCO-protected Nærøyfjord.
Included in this segment of your trip is 2 nights at the renowned Kviknes Hotel, in Balestrand, which will allow you to further immerse yourself in the splendor of Norway (dinner included at the hotel on both nights). Feel the thrill of a fjord cruise aboard a fast RIB boat along the Sognefjord or try some leisurely kayaking, an incredibly beautiful and peaceful experience.
Your beautiful ferry ride along the Sognefjord is concluded in Bergen, the city known as the “Gateway to the Fjords.” Take your time when exploring this magnificent town, which is beautiful however you look at it. There you can eat lunch at the Fish Market, admire the entire city atop Mount Fløyen and soak in the local art at the KODE museums. It is also possible to add a private tour of the city to your program if you wish.
Depart from Bergen aboard a cruise ship on an overnight journey to Ålesund and enjoy some free time to explore this charming Art Noveau city. The following day takes you on an unforgettable day trip to explore Ålesund and Geiranger, home of Norway’s most famous fjord: the Geirangerfjord. With its characteristic “S” shape, high waterfalls and abandoned mountain farms, the fjord landscape is included on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites. FAQs
Our group tours allow travelers to explore Scandinavian destinations in the company of a very experienced Tour Director and a small group of fellow travelers. Group sizes are limited to 12 travelers and a limited number of departure dates are offered for each tour throughout the year. The Tour Director accompanies the group from beginning to end of the tour and often a private driver and vehicle (luxury mini coach) are also employed for maximum comfort. Additionally, we count on the expertise of several local guides at each of the destinations visited, further enhancing the experience. Our group tours typically include most dinners, in order to better showcase local cuisines, and allow for the exploration of more remote destinations.
This option is ideal for travelers who enjoy traveling in the most worry-free manner possible while discovering destinations in the company of others, making new friends along the way.
Our private tours allow travelers to explore Scandinavian destinations with programs offering a great balance between pre-arranged activities and free time to explore. When implementing one of our private programs for you, we handle all the logistics involved, including: hotels, airport transfers, transportation from city to city and all guided activities and excursions. You will not be with a Tour Director throughout the program, but you will enjoy a number of sightseeing experiences led by experienced local guides. We can work with your desired dates, provided that availability exists at the many services involved in your program.
This option is ideal for travelers who enjoy traveling independently and with a higher degree of flexibility to explore each location on their own.
Technically, Scandinavia refers primarily to Norway, Denmark and Sweden. When thinking of Nordic Countries, add to the list Finland and Iceland as well. Discover Scandinavia Tours can take you to any location in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. Currently we also offer extensions in Estonia, which is of particularly convenient access when visiting Finland, given that Tallinn – Estonia’s beautiful capital – can be reached by a short ferry ride from Helsinki.

If you are interested in a group tour, you can book any departure as long as there are seats available (but remember: we have a maximum of 12 seats per departure, so booking early is recommendable). If you want a private tour, you can book as far as 2 years in advance. For last-minute travelers, please keep in mind that we need a minimum of 30 days to implement a private program.
With our group tours of Scandinavia you can choose from a number of fixed departures throughout the year. If you need more flexible dates, our private tours allow us to work with any dates you have in mind, provided that we find adequate availability at all hotels and other services included in your particular program.
